Turn a simple cut of chuck roast into these mouthwatering Spicy Crispy Steak Bites. Coated with seasoned cornmeal and kissed by heat from a delightful hot sauce, these bites are perfect for a snack, appetizer, or a hearty entrée. Served with a zesty Mexican crema sauce and garnished with fresh cilantro, they're sure to be a hit at any gathering or quiet night in.

Ingredients:

🥩 2 lb chuck roast (cut into medium-size cubes)
🍲 Bamma Fish Fry seasoned cornmeal (enough to coat the steak)
🌶️ Breakfast Belle hot sauce (to taste)
🥚 1 egg
🥛 Mexican crema (as needed for sauce)
🌿 Cilantro (for garnish)

Instructions:

  1. Begin by prepping the steak. In a large bowl, beat the egg. Add the chuck roast cubes and mix well until each piece is coated with egg.
  2. Spread the seasoned cornmeal into another bowl or a shallow dish. One by one, dredge each egg-coated steak cube in the cornmeal, ensuring all sides are well coated.
  3. Heat a good amount of cooking oil in a frying pan or deep fryer until hot (about 350°F/175°C). Carefully add the coated steak cubes to the hot oil in batches to avoid overcrowding.
  4. Fry the steak bites until they are golden and crispy, about 4-5 minutes. Use caution to prevent burning.
  5. Remove the bites from the oil and drain on a paper towel-lined plate or bowl to remove excess oil.
  6. In a small bowl, mix Mexican crema with Breakfast Belle hot sauce to create a dipping sauce. Adjust the amount of hot sauce to taste. It should be spicy with a touch of sweetness.
  7. Drizzle the crema sauce over the crispy steak bites or serve it on the side.
  8. Garnish the steak bites with freshly chopped cilantro to add a burst of color and fresh flavor.

Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 5 minutes per batch
Total Time: 20 minutes + additional time for multiple batches
Servings: Serves 4-6 as an appetizer or 2-3 as a main course.
Equipment: Mixing bowls, deep fryer or frying pan, slotted spoon, paper towels for draining.

Cooking Tips:

  • For an even coat, you can also use a zip-top bag to shake the steak cubes with the seasoned cornmeal.
  • Adjust the heat of the sauce to your preference by adding more or less of the hot sauce.
  • Ensure the oil is at the correct temperature before adding your steak to achieve a crispy texture without absorbing too much oil.
