Asian-Style Filet Mignon

- 🧄 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 🧅 1 small shallot, finely chopped
- 🥢 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 🍯 1 tablespoon honey
- 🍋 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 🌶️ 1 teaspoon chili flakes (optional, for heat)
- 🥄 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 🌿 Fresh cilantro or green onions, for garnish
Sometimes the most spontaneous dinners turn out to be the most delicious. This recipe is a delightful combination of seared filet topped with a rich mushroom soy glaze, served over fragrant steamed rice. Accompanied by fresh cucumbers, kimchi, and pickled garlic, this meal is a harmony of flavors and textures that you can whip up quickly and impressively.
Ingredients:
🥩 2 filets
🧂 Salt and pepper (to taste)
🌿 2 tablespoons cooking oil
🧄 4 fresh garlic cloves
🌶️ 2 Thai red hot chili peppers
🌿 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, chopped
🧈 2 tablespoons butter
🍄 1 cup sliced mini portobello mushrooms
🥢 2 tablespoons soy sauce
🍚 Steamed rice, for serving
🥒 1 cucumber, sliced
🥬 Green leaves (lettuce or similar) for wrapping
🌶️ Kimchi, for serving
🧄 Pickled garlic cloves, for serving
🧅 2 green onions, sliced (scallions)
🌿 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
Instructions:
- Prepare the Filets:
- Season the filets with salt and pepper on both sides.
- Heat a cast-iron skillet over high heat and add the cooking oil.
- Sear the Filets:
- Place the seasoned filets in the hot skillet.
- Sear each side for about 3-4 minutes until a crispy brown crust forms.
- Add leftover green onions, garlic cloves, Thai red chili peppers, cilantro, and butter to the skillet.
- Once both sides of the filets are seared, remove them from skillet and let them rest on a plate.
- Prepare the Mushroom Glaze:
- Using the same skillet, remove all items except the garlic cloves.
- Add sliced mini portobello mushrooms to the skillet and sauté for about 3 minutes.
- Pour soy sauce over the mushrooms, stir, and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
- Assemble the Dish:
- Slice the rested filets and place them over steamed rice.
- Top the filet slices with sautéed mushrooms and some skillet juice.
- Serve sliced cucumber, kimchi, and pickled garlic on the side.
- Garnish with scallions and sesame seeds.
- Enjoy:
- For an extra touch, wrap portions of the dish in green leaves for a refreshing and crunchy bite.
