Okra Tacos
Delight in these simple yet flavorful Okra Tacos, prepared with crispy bacon fat and garnished with tangy cotija cheese. This recipe transforms humble ingredients into a mouth-watering experience, perfect for any taco enthusiast. The use of frozen okra makes it convenient and quick, while the addition of pepper flakes adds a delightful kick.
Ingredients
🥓 2 tablespoons bacon fat (or cooking oil)
🧅 1/2 diced onion
🥗 1 bag of frozen okra, thawed
🌶️ Pepper flakes, to taste
🧀 Cotija cheese
🌮 Corn tortillas
Instructions
1- Prepare Ingredients:
- Dice the onion finely.
- Thaw the frozen okra if it’s not already thawed.
2- Cook the Filling:
- In a large skillet, heat the bacon fat over medium heat. If you prefer, you can substitute with regular cooking oil.
- Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté until it becomes translucent.
- Add the thawed okra to the onions, stirring occasionally.
- Sprinkle in pepper flakes according to your heat preference. The longer you fry the okra, the more the slime will diminish, giving it a browner and crispier texture. Cook until the okra is golden brown.
3- Assemble the Tacos:
- Heat the corn tortillas in a separate pan or directly over an open flame until they are warm and pliable.
- Spoon the okra mixture onto each tortilla.
- Top with crumbled cotija cheese.
4- Serve:
- Serve immediately while warm and enjoy the delightful flavors of these unique tacos.
