Bring a delicious Mexican twist to your kitchen with these irresistibly soft and creamy filled donuts. Made using Hawaiian rolls, these delightful treats are filled with a smooth vanilla cream and coated in fragrant cinnamon sugar. Perfect for any occasion, they promise to be a favorite among family and friends!

Ingredients

🥫 1 can of evaporated milk
🥫 1 can of condensed milk
🥄 1 tbsp of Mexican vanilla
🥄 1/4 cup of cornstarch
💧 1/4 cup of cold water
🍞 1 pack of 12 Hawaiian rolls
🍬 1/2 cup of sugar
🌿 2 tbsp of freshly ground Mexican cinnamon

Instructions

1- Prepare the Vanilla Cream Filling:

  • In a medium-sized pot, combine the evaporated milk, condensed milk, and Mexican vanilla. Heat the mixture over medium heat, stirring constantly until the condensed milk dissolves completely.
  • In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with cold water until smooth and lump-free.
  • Once the milk mixture is hot, gradually whisk in the cornstarch mixture, continuing to stir until the filling thickens. Remove from heat and allow it to cool.
  • Transfer the vanilla cream to a pastry bag fitted with a filling tip and set aside.

2- Prepare the Cinnamon Sugar:

  • Grind the Mexican cinnamon using a molino or coffee grinder.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground cinnamon with sugar and set aside.

3- Fry the Hawaiian Rolls:

  • Heat oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  • Fry each Hawaiian roll until they turn golden brown. Remove from oil and allow them to cool slightly.

4- Coat and Fill the Rolls:

  • Roll each fried Hawaiian roll in the cinnamon sugar until evenly coated.
  • Use a chopstick or a skewer to poke a hole in the side of each roll, gently creating space inside for the filling.
  • Pipe the vanilla cream filling into each donut through the hole.

Cooking Tips:

  • Ensure the oil is at the right temperature before frying to achieve an even golden color.
  • Wait until the filling has cooled adequately before transferring it to the pastry bag to prevent melting the bag.
