Carne Asada
Carne Asada is a classic dish, bursting with flavors and perfect for gatherings or a delightful family meal. With a zesty lime marinade, aromatic garlic, and the warmth of jalapeño, this dish is a celebration of taste that is best enjoyed grilled to juicy perfection.
Ingredients:
For the marinade:
🍋 Juice of 1 lime
🧄 3-4 garlic cloves
🧅 1 small onion
🌶️ 1 seedless jalapeño
🌿 1/4 cup fresh cilantro
🛢️ 2 cups canola oil (or any neutral oil)
🌱 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
🐔 2 tablespoons chicken bouillon powder
For the Carne Asada:
🥩 1 flank steak, cleaned and thinly sliced
🧂 Salt to taste
Instructions:
- Prepare the Marinade:
- Squeeze the juice of one lime into a blender.
- Add 3-4 peeled garlic cloves, depending on their size.
- Roughly chop one small onion and add it to the blender.
- Slice one jalapeño in half, remove the seeds, and add to the blender for a mild heat level.
- Add 1/4 cup of fresh cilantro leaves, ensuring they are stem-free.
- Pour in 2 cups of canola oil, or substitute with any neutral oil of your choice.
- Sprinkle in 1/4 teaspoon of ground cumin and add 2 tablespoons of chicken bouillon powder.
- Blend until you achieve a smooth marinade consistency.
- Marinate the Steak:
- Clean the flank steak by trimming excess fat, and slice it thinly against the grain for tenderness.
- Place the steak in a shallow dish or sealable plastic bag.
- Pour the marinade over the steak, ensuring it is fully immersed. Seal the bag or cover the dish.
- Marinate the steak in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours. For deeper flavor, it is recommended to marinate overnight.
- Cook the Carne Asada:
- Heat a cast iron skillet or prepare a grill to medium-high heat.
- Remove the steak from the marinade and season lightly with salt just before cooking.
- Cook the steak for a few minutes on each side, aiming for a juicy medium-rare or your preferred level of doneness. Be careful not to overcook.
- Once cooked to your liking, remove from heat and let it rest for a few minutes before slicing.
- Serve:
- Slice the steak thinly and serve it as is, or use it as a filling for tacos or burritos.
Cooking Tips:
- Marinating overnight yields the best flavor.
- A hot grill or skillet ensures a good sear on the flank steak.
