Spicy Egg, Cheese & Honey Toast
This recipe brings together a unique combination of spicy, creamy, and sweet flavors with a delightful crunch. Perfect for breakfast or a light lunch, this toast combines homemade chili oil, soft eggs, and the delicate sweetness of honeycomb, balanced with creamy cottage cheese.
Ingredients
🌶️ 2 tablespoons Chiltepín pepper
🧅 1 tablespoon dried onion flakes
🧄 1 tablespoon dried garlic flakes
🫒 1 cup cooking oil
🍳 2 eggs
🍞 2 slices bread
🧀 1/2 cup cottage cheese
🍯 Honeycomb (or regular honey, if preferred)
Instructions
1- Prepare the Chili Oil:
- In a glass bowl, combine the Chiltepín pepper, dried onion flakes, and dried garlic flakes.
- Heat 1 cup of cooking oil over medium heat until hot, but not smoking.
- Carefully pour the hot oil over the spice mixture in the glass bowl. Stir well to mix and cool the oil slightly. This will be your spicy chili oil.
2- Cook the Eggs:
- Preheat a frying pan over medium heat and add some of the chili oil.
- Crack the eggs into the pan. Let them cook to your preferred level of doneness, covering the pan if necessary.
3- Prepare the Toast:
- Toast the bread slices to your desired crispness.
- Spread cottage cheese generously over the toasted bread.
4- Assemble:
- Place a fried egg on top of each slice of cottage cheese spread toast.
- Top with a piece of honeycomb or a drizzle of honey.
5- Serve:
- Season with additional chili oil if desired and enjoy immediately while warm.
