Experience a light, flavorful, and elegant dish with this Sesame-Crusted Ahi Tuna Salad. This recipe combines the subtle flavors of fresh tuna with the nutty crunch of sesame seeds, delivering a delightful textural contrast. The accompanying salad is vibrant and refreshing, making it a perfect meal for a special lunch or dinner.

Ingredients:

  • 🧂 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 🌿 1 tsp wasabi powder
  • 🍋 1 tsp fresh lime juice
  • 🐟 1 Ahi tuna steak
  • 🧂 Salt and pepper to taste
  • ⚫️ 2 tbsp white sesame seeds
  • ⚪️ 2 tbsp black sesame seeds
  • 🥄 1 tbsp sesame oil (for dressing)
  • 🍋 Fresh lime juice (for dressing)
  • 🥗 Baby arugula and baby spinach
  • 🥄 Sesame oil for pan
  • 🧄 Garlic and sesame bites furikake

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tuna Marinade:
    • In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, wasabi powder, and lime juice. Mix until well combined.
    • Season the Ahi tuna steak lightly with salt and pepper, then coat it in the marinade. Allow it to marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Coat the Tuna:
    • In a shallow dish, mix the white and black sesame seeds.
    • Remove the tuna from the marinade and gently press it into the sesame seeds, coating all sides evenly.
  3. Sear the Tuna:
    • Heat a small amount of sesame oil in a non-stick pan over medium-high heat.
    • Once the oil is hot, sear the tuna steak for approximately 1 minute on each side, or until the sesame crust is golden brown. The inside should remain medium-rare for the best flavor and texture. Avoid overcooking!
  4. Prepare the Salad:
    • In a mixing bowl, toss the baby arugula and baby spinach with fresh lime juice and sesame oil to taste.
    • Arrange the greens on a serving plate.
  5. Assemble the Dish:
    • Slice the seared tuna steak into thin slices at an angle.
    • Arrange the tuna slices over the dressed greens.
    • Sprinkle with garlic and sesame bites furikake for an additional layer of flavor and crunch.
  6. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Serve the dish immediately, appreciating the delicate flavors and textures.

Cooking Tips:

  • Ensure your pan is hot enough before adding the tuna to achieve a perfect sear.
  • Consume this dish fresh for the most vibrant flavors and best texture.
