Wagyu Steak with Garlic Butter
🧅 1/2 onion🥄 1 tablespoon mustard🍋 Juice of half a lime🧂 Salt and pepper to taste🥩 1 Wagyu steak🧈 2 tablespoons butter🌶️ 1 habanero pepper🧄 1-2 garlic cloves🧅 1/2 shallot
Experience a tantalizing harmony of flavors with this Spicy Wagyu Steak, perfectly seared and paired with a bold habanero butter that complements the richness of the meat. This dish is inspired by a memorable tasting experience from my youth, and promises to impress both new and seasoned steak lovers.
Ingredients:
🧅 1/2 onion
🥄 1 tablespoon mustard
🍋 Juice of half a lime
🧂 Salt and pepper to taste
🥩 1 Wagyu steak
🧈 2 tablespoons butter
🌶️ 1 habanero pepper
🧄 1-2 garlic cloves
🧅 1/2 shallot
Instructions:
Prep the Ingredients:
- Dice the onion and shallot finely.
- Mince the garlic cloves.
- Slice the habanero pepper thinly, removing seeds if you prefer less heat.
- In a small bowl, combine the diced onion, mustard, lime juice, salt, and pepper. Set aside.
Prepare the Steak:
- Pat the Wagyu steak dry with paper towels. This helps achieve a perfect sear.
- Season both sides generously with salt and pepper.
Cook the Steak:
- Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Do not add oil; Wagyu has enough fat to prevent sticking.
- Place the steak in the skillet. Let it sear without moving for 3-4 minutes on one side, until a crust forms.
- Flip the steak and sear the other side for another 3-4 minutes (or adjust time depending on your desired doneness).
- Remove the steak from the skillet and let it rest on a cutting board.
Make the Habanero Butter:
- In the same skillet, add butter and let it melt over medium heat.
- Add the minced garlic, diced shallot, and sliced habanero pepper. Sauté for approximately 2 minutes, until fragrant.
- Spoon this habanero butter mixture over the resting steak, allowing the flavors to meld.
Serve:
- Thinly slice the steak against the grain.
- Drizzle the onion-mustard mixture over the steak slices for a zesty finish.
- Optionally, serve with enchiladas on the side for a complete meal.

Cooking Tips:
- If you prefer milder spice, use half a habanero or remove all seeds.
- Resting the steak is crucial to ensure juices redistribute evenly for tenderness.
