Inspired by a blend of Chinese and Mexican culinary influences, this Green Beans and Ground Beef Stir Fry combines the savory flavors of a traditional stir fry with ingredients typical of a Mexican picadillo. This dish highlights the freshness of green beans alongside the robust taste of seasoned ground beef, making it a perfect fusion meal served with rice.
Ingredients:
- 🥬 1 lb of long green beans (regular fresh green beans are okay too)
- 🥩 1 lb of ground beef
- 🧄 1 tsp of garlic powder
- 🧅 1 tsp of onion powder
- 🌶️ 1 tsp of coarse black pepper
- 🧂 1 tsp of salt
- 🌿 1 tsp of jugo maggi
- 🌿 ¼ tsp of cumin
- 🧄 2 tsp of minced garlic
- 🥄 Cooking oil
Instructions:
- Prep the Green Beans:
Start by cleaning the green beans thoroughly. Trim the ends and cut them to your desired length. - Deep Frying the Green Beans:
- In a wok or a large pot, pour in enough cooking oil to deep-fry the green beans. Heat the oil over high heat until it's very hot.
- Carefully add the green beans to the hot oil. For safety, use an oil splatter guard. Ensure the beans are completely dry before frying.
- Fry the green beans for about 4 minutes, then remove them and place into a strainer over a bowl to drain excess oil.
- Preparing the Ground Beef:
- Remove all the oil from the wok or pot. Alternatively, use a different pan for the next step.
- In a bowl, combine the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, salt, jugo maggi, and cumin. Mix the ingredients thoroughly to ensure the meat is well seasoned.
- Cooking the Beef:
- Add just enough oil to the wok or pot to cook the beef. Add the seasoned ground beef into the pan.
- Use a spoon or potato masher to break up any large chunks of meat.
- Add the minced garlic and continue to cook until the beef is fully browned and cooked through.
- Combine and Finish:
- Once the beef is cooked, add the fried green beans back to the wok.
- Stir-fry everything together for 2 to 3 minutes, ensuring the flavors meld well and the beans are heated through.
- Serve:
- This dish is best served hot with a side of white or Mexican rice.
