Ingredients
For the Flan:
🥚 4 eggs
🥛 1 can of condensed milk
🥛 1 can of evaporated milk
🍦 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
🍋 1/4 teaspoon lime juice
For the Chocolate Cake:
🍫 1 Devil’s Food cake mix
🥚 3 eggs
🛢️ 1/2 cup vegetable oil
💧 1 cup water
Additional Ingredients:
🟣 Purple food coloring
🟠 Orange food coloring
⚫ Black food coloring
🔴 Red food coloring
🍮 Dulce de leche
🧴 Pan spray
Instructions
1- Prep the Flan Mix:
- In a bowl, combine 4 eggs, condensed milk, evaporated milk, vanilla, and lime juice. Mix well by hand. Add purple or other desired food colorings until you achieve your preferred hue.
2- Prepare the Chocolate Cake Mix:
- Follow the instructions on your favorite Devil’s Food cake mix brand. Add eggs, vegetable oil, and water. For an extra spooky touch, mix in black food coloring to darken the batter.
3- Assemble the Chocoflan:
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Spray your baking pan generously with pan spray.
Pour the chocolate cake mix into the pan, filling it about 1/3 full.
Slowly add the flan mix over a spoon to prevent it from mixing with the cake batter, filling another 1/3 of the pan. Leave the remaining space for the cake to rise.
4- Bake in a Water Bath:
Spray a piece of foil with pan spray and loosely cover the pan.
Place the chocoflan pan inside a larger baking dish and fill with hot water until it reaches halfway up the sides of the chocoflan pan.
Carefully position the setup in the oven and bake. If you're using smaller skull molds, bake for 45 minutes; for a 10-inch round pan, bake for about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
5- Finishing Touches:
Check if the chocoflan is done by ensuring the cake is firm in the center. Once baked, remove from the oven and cool slightly.
Gently flip the chocoflan onto a serving tray. Mix red food coloring with dulce de leche and spread it over the flan layer for a deliciously eerie blood-like effect.
