Experience a delightful combination of flavors and textures with these easy-to-make crispy tuna cakes. Perfect as an appetizer or a main dish, they are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Pair them with red rice or a lentil soup for a comforting meal reminiscent of traditional Spanish cuisine.

Ingredients:

  • 🐟 1 (12oz) can of Tuna in water, drained
  • 🧅 1/6 onion, chopped very small
  • 🌿 1 teaspoon dry cilantro leaves
  • 🌶️ 1 teaspoon red chili pepper flakes
  • 🥚 2 large eggs
  • 🌽 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 🧂 Salt, to taste
  • ⚫ Black pepper, to taste
  • 🥄 Favorite cooking oil, for frying

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Tuna Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, add the drained tuna. Use a fork to break down the large chunks.
  2. Add Seasonings: Mix in the chopped onion, dry cilantro leaves, red chili pepper flakes, salt, and black pepper. Stir together to combine the flavors evenly.
  3. Bind the Mixture: Add the two large eggs to the bowl and mix until incorporated. This will help bind the tuna mixture.
  4. Add Cornstarch: Gradually add the 3 tablespoons of cornstarch, mixing well until the mixture holds together and can be formed into cakes.
  5. Shape the Cakes: Divide the mixture into five equal portions and shape each into a patty of your preferred size.
  6. Fry the Tuna Cakes: Heat your favorite cooking oil in a skillet over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, gently place the tuna cakes into the skillet. Fry each side for about 3-4 minutes or until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Serve: Once cooked, transfer to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb any excess oil. Serve the crispy tuna cakes while hot, with red rice or lentil soup on the side for a complete meal.

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Servings: Makes approximately 5 tuna cakes.

Equipment:

  • Mixing bowl
  • Fork or mixing spoon
  • Skillet
  • Spatula

Cooking Tips:

  • Ensure the skillet and oil are adequately heated before adding the tuna cakes to achieve a perfect crispy texture.
  • Drain the tuna well to prevent the mixture from becoming too wet.
