Ingredients
🥣 4 cups of all-purpose flour
🥄 2 tablespoons baking powder
🍬 2 tablespoons white sugar
🧂 2 teaspoons salt
🧈 5 tablespoons butter
🥛 2 cups of buttermilk
🥚 1 egg
💧 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
1- Prep the Dry Ingredients:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt. Mix well to ensure even distribution.
2- Incorporate the Butter:
- Cut the butter into small cubes. Add these to the dry mix and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to break it into the flour until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
3- Add the Buttermilk:
- Pour in the buttermilk. Mix gently until the dough just comes together. Be careful not to overmix, as this will affect the texture of the biscuits.
4- Shape the Dough:
- Dust a clean surface with flour and turn out the dough. Press it lightly to form a slab about one inch thick. If it's sticky, add a little more flour to handle it with ease.
5- Cut the Biscuits:
- Use a cookie cutter or a can with both ends removed to cut the dough into rounds. Transfer these onto a sheet pan lined with parchment paper.
6- Prepare the Egg Wash:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water. Brush the tops of each biscuit with this wash, which will give them a beautiful golden finish.
7- Bake:
- Preheat your oven to 385°F (196°C). Arrange the biscuits about an inch apart on the pan. Bake for 40 minutes or until they turn golden brown.
8- Serve:
- Once done, let the biscuits cool slightly. Serve them warm with your choice of butter, jam, or honey.
